VOLUNTEERS
The
club is a non-profit organization that
operates by the efforts of its members.
The only hired help is the janitor who is
responsible for cleaning the
washrooms and kitchen floor.
Our
history reflects the tremendous
contributions that our past and present members have made to the
success of our
club. Let us follow
their example so we
can provide a great bowling club for those who follow us.
History
A
Brief History of the Club:
In
the late seventies the Recreation
Commission held meetings with Marguerite Sullivan with the aim of
constructing
a bowling green. As
a result of these meetings, in 1979
Qualicum Beach Village council allocated part of the municipal park
(corner of
First Avenue and Jones Street) to create two official-sized greens, a
parking
lot, an equipment shed and, at a later date, a clubhouse for a minimal
annual
rental. On April 27th,
1979 the Qualicum and District Lawn Bowling
Club
was incorporated as a Society. Official
Opening Ceremonies were held June
6th, 1981. Ribbon
cutting
was done by Alderman Jack Collins. The first year there were
50 playing
members plus Chartered Members.
